If you have a tree that is too big for the area it is in pollarding offers a way of reducing it back to a manageable size.

The process involves removing more than 30% of the tree’s canopy shape leaving just a small crown, or in older methods just the trunk and the main branch structure.

Pollarding can be used to preserve old trees which cannot be braced, to prevent them blowing over or to prevent trees interfering with power cables. In a domestic setting this process can prevent tree damage to your home, green house, shed or outbuildings and therefore safeguard family members.
