Who we are and what we do
Hampshire Tree and Garden is your local tree specialist providing a professional and reliable service in Hampshire and the surrounding counties. We are a dedicated and friendly team of arboriculturists who thoroughly enjoy the work we do. We take pride in the quality of our workmanship and enjoy using our skills and knowledge to help our clients. We pride ourselves on delivering straightforward, high quality forestry and arboricultural services, which are fantastic value for money. Our amiable tree surgery team works with both domestic and commercial clients and is able to take on any size job. We also undertake site clearance, woodland management, forestry and timber cutting, and we buy and sell firewood. Tree and woodland surveys, including tree mensuration, ecological surveys and tree reports are among our other services and we regularly deal with local councils on tree related planning issues for our clients.
Qualifications and insurance
Our experienced staff are fully qualified and insured. We carry with us a portfolio of insurance documentation and certificates, which you are very welcome to view; just ask one of the team and they will be happy to talk you through this.
As a team we are very proud of our skills and believe that, as a customer, it is important for you to see who you have working for you. A qualified tree surgeon earns a series of tickets and certificates to show that they are safe and competent in the use of chainsaws for logging timber, felling small and large trees, dealing with windblown trees, using pole chainsaws and climbing with a saw. They also gain qualifications proving their ability to use machinery, such as 360 diggers, cherry pickers, stump grinders and woodchippers. Once competent in the more basic qualifications they move on to climbing tickets which show their ability to rescue another climber, safely use a saw in a tree, dismantle trees, rig sections of a tree down safely, and carry out reductions. Our staff have earned all these qualifications through our industry’s recognised bodies, LANTRA and NPTC, and some have studied the infamous National Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture at Sparsholt College, in Hampshire. The diploma is a two-year course of which 80% is written work studying plant and soil science, planting and establishment, pests and diseases, advance machinery operations, silviculture and ecology. We also have business A levels and qualifications in ICT.
Working to British Standards
As all good tree surgeons know, we have to keep to the British Standards for tree work. We follow BS3998, which was revised in 2010 to keep up to date with working practices, law, health and safety, veteran trees, wildlife and habitats. This keeps all work to a high standard and ensures businesses within the industry run efficiently. We also carry out work in line with BS5837: 2012 which sets out guidelines on protecting trees in relation to design, demolition and construction work. This is relevant to our tree reports and our work alongside arboriculture consultants.
Our Story
After passing the National Diploma at Sparsholt College with a triple distinction, Callum Kilby started gaining experience working for local tree surgery firms around Hampshire, before taking a job as Estate Manager on a small estate in North Hampshire. The role involved grounds management, leading a team of staff and managing an arboretum of trees from all over the world, many brought over in Victorian and Edwardian times.
Callum’s passion to start his own business led him to take more qualifications and gain more experience before establishing Hampshire Tree and Garden in 2011. The business quickly earned its outstanding reputation.
